StudioCanal UK announced today it will re-release Carol Reed’s The Third Man to British theaters next month to mark the classic movie’s 70th anniversary.

It was teased by StudioCanal on social media with the tweet, “Hunted by men, sought by women — it’s time to meet The Third Man once more.”

A gala event is planned for the actual 70th anniversary of the film’s premiere on September 1,

There will be a pre-screening exclusive live musical performance from Cornelia Mayer, a Viennese zither player who trained with Anton Karas, followed by a 4K screening of The Third Man at Picturehouse Central, Piccadilly. After the showing, there will be a Q&A hosted by film critic Danny Leigh and featuring script supervisor Angela Allen,  one of the last remaining crew members.

The world premiere of The Third Man took place at the Ritz Cinema in Hastings on September 1, 1949. Fifty years later,  the British Film Institute voted The Third Man the greatest British film of all time.

In the film, pulp novelist Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) travels to shadowy, postwar Vienna, only to find himself investigating the mysterious death of an old friend, Harry Lime (Orson Welles). Scripted by Graham Greene, the movie co-stars Alida Valli, Trevor Howard and Bernard Lee.

There has been no word yet on a U.S. theatrical release or special Fathom Events showing.

A trailer for the 70th anniversary release dropped today on Twitter and  YouTube.
