The reopening of The Third Man Museum in Vienna is another hopeful sign that life is slowly returning to normal.
Gerhard Strassgschwandtner told Wellesnet today that he and partner and Karin Höfler plan a soft opening. They will greet visitors May 3, 13 and 23, as well as June 3, 13 and 23, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Reservations are unnecessary and admission is €9.50 with discounts for seniors, students and children. (It is also open any day of the week for 75-minute private VIP tours at a flat rate of €120 for groups of 10 or less.)
Like other attractions worldwide, The Third Man Museum has had to cope with a series of lockdowns or restrictions since the start of the pandemic more than a year ago. Due to those limitations, the museum has not welcomed a visitor since December 19, 2020.
The museum has a website at 3mpc.net — and operates an online gift shop! It can be reached by telephone at +43-1-5864872 or email at contact@3mpc.net
The museum relies heavily on tourism to tell the story of the classic Carol Reed film starring Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles, as well as document life in post-World War II Vienna.
Obviously, the pandemic has impacted travel and tourism worldwide.
To date, there have been more than 616,614 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Austria with 9,978 deaths, according to the World Health Organization. By contrast, there have been 32 million confirmed cases in the United States with 570,537 deaths.
