The Torino Film Festival will mark the centennial of Orson Welles’ birth and the 30th anniversary of his passing in November.
Welles’ image adorns the poster for the Nov. 20-28 festival and three of his films will be screened there.
“In the centenary of the birth of Orson Welles, May 6, 1915, and the 30th anniversary of his death on October 10, 1985, the Torino Film Festival could not but pay tribute to the greatest of all the rookies ( He directed Citizen Kane when he was 25 years old). Therefore we dedicate the 33th edition of the festival, with the image of TFF 2015 by presenting three of his masterpieces in the restored version, Kane (Citizen Kane, 1941),Confidential Report (Mr. Arkadin, 1955) and Touch of Evil (Touch of Evil, 1958). A gift that we hope will be acceptable to the public of the festival,” said festival director Emanuela Martini.
TFF is the latest Italian festival to honor Welles. The Napoli Film Festival recently announced it will screen Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons during its September 28 to October 4 run.
The Torino Film Festival is Italy’s second largest movie gathering after the Venice Film Festival.
It was founded in 1982 by film critic Gianni Rondolino as Festival Internazionale Cinema Giovani (Festival of Young Cinema).
