Updated ‘Magic World of Orson Welles’ to be published in June

A month after the 100th anniversary of the birth of Orson Welles, fans will be getting quite a birthday gift.

James Naremore’s highly respected The Magic World of Orson Welles, first published in 1978, will be revised and updated by the author.

University of Illinois Press will release cloth bound and paperback centennial editions in June.

The 352-page book will include 83 black and white photographs and a new section on the unfinished film The Other Side of the Wind.

Naremore is Chancellors’ Professor Emeritus at Indiana University.  He provided commentary tracks for the Criterion Collection release of  Mr. Arkadin  and Universal’s 50th anniversary DVD of  Touch of Evil.

He will be a featured guest at upcoming centennial events at Indiana University and Woodstock, Illinois.

Naremore’s other books include On Kubrick, The Films of Vincente Minnelli, More than Night: Film Noir in Its Contexts, Acting in the Cinema, Sweet Smell of Success, and An Invention without a Future: Essays on Cinema.
