During the Dublin run of the stage version of Chimes at Midnight in February and March 1960, Orson Welles also took part in a show entitled The Pleasure of Your Company (aka An Evening with Orson Welles).
Those evenings at the Gaiety Theatre were divided into two halves: The first was Welles reading from his Moby Dick – Rehearsed, selections by Isak Dinesen or other literary works, while the second portion of the program was an audience question and answer session conducted by Welles.
At least one evening was filmed by the BBC as part of an unrealized television project, Orson Welles Interviews the Irish and Vice Versa, according to Welles biographer Simon Callow.
In the 18 minutes of footage that survives, Welles commented on his early days at the Gate Theatre with Micheál Mac Liammóir and Hilton Edwards, political aspirations, evangelists, and the 1952 film production of Othello.
