The highly anticipated The Other Side of the Wind was the subject of a stellar panel discussion on February 27 at the 2015 Sedona International Film Festival.
Moderated by Josh Karp, author of the forthcoming Orson Welles Last Movie, participants included several original TOSOTW cast and crew: production manager Larry Jackson, assistant editor Rick Shore, actors Frank Fiore and Pat McMahon and assistant cameraman Mike Ferris. Joining them on stage at the Harkins Theatres were co-producer Filip Jan Rymsza and the director’s youngest daughter, Beatrice Welles.
Four months ago, producers Rymsza, Jens Koethner Kaul and Frank Marshall revealed they had reached agreements with all involved parties to complete The Other Side of the Wind. The goal is to deliver a theatrical release of a film close to what Welles would have wanted when he completed principal photography in 1976.
Beatrice Welles had suggested the panel discussion to Patrick Schweiss, executive director of the 21st annual Sedona festival. Karp put together an amazing team. It was the highpoint of the Welles portion of the festival.
With no film to screen, it was mainly a sentimental gathering of colleagues with Ferris recalling how he met his wife on the set, McMahon describing his hiring and Jackson choking up as he shared his memories of Welles.
Below are four highlight reels filmed by the festival organizers, as well as four clips I shot from the front row and some photographs.
