Orson Welles’ lifelong battle to defend the Earth from alien invaders will be released in trade paperback form on July 24 by Scout Comics.
Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds is a graphic novel that begins with the premise that Welles’ legendary War of the Worlds radio broadcast in 1938 was not a hoax: an alien invasion really happened. As a result, Welles joins an organization that defends Earth from extraterrestrial threats and lives a double life as a film director by day, alien-hunter by night. These adventures pre-date Citizen Kane and extend through the filming of his final major project, The Other Side of the Wind.
Wellesnet first reported on Warrior of the Worlds nearly four years ago when Houston-based writer Milton Lawson was hoping to fund its publication through crowdfunding. He eventually inked a deal with Scout Comics and Entertainment, which is exploring the possibility of a television adaptation with Ready or Not screenwriter R. Christopher Murphy.
“I cannot be more excited to finally share this book and especially being able to bring it to the Wellesians out there,” Lawson said. “It’s been a multi-year journey getting to this point, but that occasionally bumpy road has been worth it because I believe we’ve ended up with something people will enjoy. Whether you’re a hardcore Welles fan, or if this book is your first introduction to his story, I think you’re in for a delightful trip.”
Lawson praised the work of artist Erik Whalen. “The handful of folks we’ve been able to preview it to thus far have loved the ride.”
Discounted from the $34.99 list price, the 238-page trade paperback can be pre-ordered at scoutcomics.com/collections/orson-welles-warrior-of-the-world/products/orson-welles-warrior-of-the-worlds-trade-paperback-1
