‘Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds’ comic book debuts

An exclusive “ash can” preview of the Scout Comics graphic novel series Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds arrives today, May 1 – the 82nd anniversary of the release of Citizen Kane.

An “ash can” is the initial publication step in a graphic novel’s release cycle – a collectible comprised of a few sample scenes to introduce audiences to the book. The seven-issue miniseries begins with a proper chapter 1 release in August.

Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds is a graphic novel series with the premise that Orson Welles’s legendary War of the Worlds radio broadcast was not a prank: an alien invasion really happened. After Welles’s first interaction with aliens, he joins an organization that defends Earth from extraterrestrial threats and lives a double life as a film director by day, alien-hunter by night!,” according to Scout Comics website.

The comic book series, which has been in the planning stages for several years, is written by Milton Lawson (Thompson Heller) with art by Erik Whalen (Birds of a Feather Burn Together). Lawson is a self-described “devoted cinephile and a long-time fan of Orson Welles.”
