The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Post by Wellesnet »

Broadcast 11/12/39, based on the 1926 novel by Agatha Christie, the third of her 66 detective novels. First show broadcast after Welles and the Mercury's relocation to Los Angeles. First Campbell script written by Hermann Mankewicz, co-writer of "Citizen Kane".

Available in excellent sound at the new Lilly website, but without the original script, as so many other shows there have:

Thanks to Dan_UK for discovering that there are two versions of this program online:
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Lilly Library version is the 60-minute West Coast version,
The old mp3 is the 55-minute East Coast version.
(Obviously comparing the lengths isn't enough as many of the mp3's are from tapes that run too fast, so I compared the dialogue and it's clearly different.)
The east coast version is available to listen to at the old Mercury Theater on the Air website, still maintained by Kim Kommando:

Perhaps someone here has an idea where I can get the script? My English is OK, but not enough for understanding all dialogues in this recording...

The script by Herman Mankewicz is said to have omitted a vital clue to the resolution of the mystery. If Lilly doesn't have it, it may not exist anymore.

I would recommend the book by Agatha Christie. It's very good, much more rewarding than the broadcast.
