Yes, I saw it last night. Superb piece of acting adopting not just to a 40s Hollywood melodrama but containing traces of those old age performances in MR. ARKADIN, and THE IMMORTAL STORY he would refine much lateer

It is a cute photo... and illustrates the "horrible disfigurement" Welles' character supposedly suffered during the war that I alluded to in my post from 17 years ago seven posts up!

Yet it was there--but all in the performance itself. He goes from vital young soldier to man at death's door, and it's the most believable thing in the story. No wonder she doesn't recognize him.

Yes, it is superb screen acting, something indebted to his work on stage, screen, and radio, which he did to keep working and keep his projects going. But nonetheless applaudable despite the fact that it has been marginalized over the decades.
