Agreed on all counts.

Welles, at just that time, would have been interested in ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS because Howard Hawks was one of the directors who was giving him tips about the first movie he was going to make. And you are quite right about the interchanges between Welles and Goddard, who as he suggests at the end of "Algiers" is connected to another of his mentors, Charles Chaplin.
