As I said in the original avatars post back when the board went up, email me your images and I'll put them in my web files. Make sure they are 64 x 64 or small in size.

jeff, you are the man. i'll get some uncle joe captures, some grisby captures, and anything else any one wants. post it here.

I just made my Harry Lime avatar a little bigger, so, Cole, go ahead with the dead (upside down?) face of Uncle Joe Grandi.

Frankly, I can't think of a more hideous avatar than Lewis's face from that still at the top of the article. If you crop it, we can pretend it's Jerry at the telethon introducing Chad Everett.

If you go into the personal info section of your control panels, you may see the handful of Welles-related avatars I added that anyone may choose from. I'll add more occasionally, and as before, if you have a particular one you want, and don't have a place to host it, send it to me and I will put it on the Wellesnet server. Just remember, it needs to be 64 x 64 pixels or smaller. And, after Welles Fan made the suggestion, I have added Jerry Lewis's mug to the avatar list, so any who dare may select it as their image on this site.

Nearly all the choices you could want, except maybe an f for faker...

i can't figure out that infra software. i could figure it out if i read the instructions, but who the hell wants to read instructions to make an avatar.?

where the heck is the personal info section of the control panel? i can't find it.

At the top of any page of the board, click on the "Your Control Panel" line next to the Welcome "your name here". Once inside, go to the Personal Info section, and at the bottom of that section will be avatar options. Click on that, and then scroll through the available options. Pick the one you want, and you are done.

Thanks, Jeff. Since Macbeth is one of my favorite Welles movies, I guess I'll grab that one. Hope it's not bad luck. Pretty grim lookin', aint he?

Re: Grande with the eyes bulging out. Just go to Google and type in "Touch of Psycho" to call up that article on the Hitch/Welles films. Gande is top and center, next to skeleton mom.

Re: F For Fake Welles. I think my Avatar is from that period. Can anyone verify? I found mine on Alta Vista images. I love the fat, bearded welles with the cigar. I guess I need that hat to be a true F For Faker.

Okay, for the hordes who want Buggin' Joe Grande for their avatar, he is now in the avatar list in all his tongue protruding, eye-bulging glory.

Backing up a bit to the Jerry Lewis discussion, I thought it might be worth noting (as this IS Wellesnet ;)) that OW himself had a soft spot for Jerry Lewis. Here's the discussion he had with Peter Bogdanovich (as quoted in "This Is Orson Welles"):

PB: What do you think of Jerry Lewis?
OW: When he goes too far, he's heaven; it's just when he doesn't go too far that he's unendurable (laughs). Now he wants to be a respected member of the community, and it shows in every move of his body. But, GOD, he can be funny! He did a scene in a movie I saw in Paris about eight years ago where he keeps trying to fix the hat on a gangster's head--

OW: And I got so sick laughing, it was like my childhood with Fields--I really had a kind of heart attack from laughing. It was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen in my life....

The heart attack part, of course, makes you wince (if not weep!); but otherwise...

Re: Welles' opinion of Lewis - I'm curious as to what he considered "going too far". And returning to the subject of avatars (isn't odd how this thread developed?), Jaime has sent me a passel of further avatars, which have been duly added to the Avatar Smorgasbord. Enjoy...

On lost movie subjects, is there any recent news/views on Welles' Laurence Harvey-Jeanne Moreau unreleased flick? With the stirring stories about a possible TOSOTW unearthing, can this hidden item be far behind?

i'm pirating myself a copy of hawk's BIG SLEEP dvd. it comes with release version, pre-release version, and short, not very personable documentary about the differences in the cuts.

it's quite a flick, snappy dialogue, lots of babes that are ready to sex-up marlowe. read somewhere that hawks hired lots of babes for his films, and tried to pork them all. ahhh, the powers of a hollywood director.

Probably more complicated than it needs to be: Currently, the avatars that are available for anyone to pick can be used by as many people as wish to choose them. To have a private, personal avatar, you need to let me know, and I will pull it from the list and re-deposit it in the personal avatars folder, excepting the ones I originally made, which are for any and all to use. So either post to this message to let me know that, or e-mail me, or use the personal messenger that the board provides, and I will act. If you don't care, that's cool too. I'll add some more public ones myself soon.

Alternately, if you don't have a scanner or other software, and you want a personal avatar and you see a photo on Wellesnet you like, let me know and I can excise the head from said photo and you can use that. That is no problem at all, since the photos are readily at hand.
