look, there are times when it seems like a chicken, but it's a duck. i don't know jaglom, i just had that one conversation with him. i asked his secretary about the welles tapes, and a cigar chomping mobster came to the phone. surprised the heck out of me, "you with a magazine? whara you wanna know? What about the tapes?" later i read the article where it said that they were taped without welles' knowledge, so at the risk of making an ASS out of U and ME, i ASSUMED it was true.
i don't know what type of day he was having. did his woman have sex with his best friend? did a deal fall through? was he being defensive about what graver was saying, not about what he did? i don't know. seems like a chicken but it could be a duck.
the conversation ended with jaglom agreeing to look at how i was going to use the transcripts to see if he would allow me to use them. later on these transcripts seemed out of tone for what i was doing and i never thought about him again.
anyway it's not worth all this arguing. he's got the tapes, i would love to hear them. the only downside is that if welles didn't know he was being taped he said a lot of stuff that we as fans don't really want to hear. in that aspect i agree with bogdanovich in his instantace in the TIOW tapes, that some of that stuff should not be published, and rosenbaum wanted every off color remark in there. we don't want to hear welles say so-and-so is a son of a bitch, and his films sucked."
.................
glennnnnn:
CAN SHE BAKE A CHERRY PIE isn't just bad, it made me want to find the filmmaker and cut his throat. that insipid version of the song playing over and over. IN A SAFE PLACE, BABY FEVER, VENICE VENICE, were all flat and boring. however, i did like SOME ONE TO LOVE.
i don't see any welles in jaglom, or his films. but i can't stand cassavetes' films either, and people who's opinion i respect love his work. cassavete's film HUSBANDS AND WIVES also made me feel like finding him and cutting his throat.
there is no accounting for taste, one man's treasure.....and all that.
i've always felt IFC and BRAVO love showing jaglom's films because they can get them real cheap.
