Emmy winner Alec Baldwin and Oscar winning director William Friedkin are joining filmmaker Joshua Grossberg in the TCM-backed hunt for the lost version of Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons as an executive producer and advisor, respectively. https://www.wellesnet.com/alec-baldwin- ... ambersons/

I first thought that Baldwin was going to physically join in the search. I pictured him scouring Brazilian warehouses at night with a big flashlight.RayKelly wrote:Emmy winner Alec Baldwin and Oscar winning director William Friedkin are joining filmmaker Joshua Grossberg in the TCM-backed hunt for the lost version of Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons as an executive producer and advisor, respectively. https://www.wellesnet.com/alec-baldwin- ... ambersons/

Perhaps he could put on his Trump make-up and launch a kickstarter appeal suggesting that Brazil has documents verifying who actually won the election?

Humor aside, a couple of big Hollywood names and an expectation of a payday might shake a few more memories loose, and open a few more doors.

My hope remains that - as with much such "Reality (!) TV" - the trick here is that the ballyhoo and "mystery" is just a milking of the fact that they actually do already have something in hand...

I think a lot of us here have had that same thought but after 79 years it's doubtful. Now if TCM flies Geraldo Rivera down to Brazil you may be on to something.Wich2 wrote:My hope remains that - as with much such "Reality (!) 79 years? Try 500+.

After this, nothing will surprise me.

I hope Geraldo Rivera does not help with the search. He came up empty with Al Capone's vault. :wink:Dan wrote:I first thought that Baldwin was going to physically join in the search. This was shared on another forum:
"Tragedy Strikes with Historic Brazilian Cinematheque in Flames as Community Lashes Out: ‘An Indescribable Pain’"

Aside from whatever other film losses were incurred in the blaze, I really do hope that the Ambersons footage wasn't in there.

We all hope for good news. Coincidentally, I've just finished Glen Erickson's a.c. on the new Bu-Ray Arrow DVD of MAJOR DUNDEE. He nds hoping there may be money supplied by a millionaire to go through Columbia Studio vaults to find out-takes and missing footage. If not maybe a documentary about the search for those crucial missing 25 minutes including the Rostes Ranch sequence that began the film. Its removal made the remaining theatrical footage incomprehensible.

Another update from Rio. A document in the old RKO office there raises the possibility that footage could have been transferred over to Kinematograph Filmes in 1950:
Here’s what we found when we went digging around the old RKO office in Rio today.
Could it be a clue that leads us to the lost print? Perhaps!
