From the press release:
Unseen Orson Welles
Coming To Northampton, Massachusetts
March 11 & 12, 2006
Movie lovers in New England’s Pioneer Valley will soon be treated to a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see legendary cinema unavailable to theaters.
Unseen and rare treasures of the film director who created the film most often voted “The Greatest Film Of All Time” will have two very special showings at the Academy Of Music, 274 Main Street, Northampton, Massachusetts on the afternoons of March 11 and 12, 2006 at 2:00 PM. A portion of the weekend’s proceeds will go for the benefit of Amherst Community Television (ACTV) and their outstanding internship program helping area students develop skills of filmmaking and visual communication.
Larry Jackson, former Managing Director of The Orson Welles Cinema Complex in Cambridge, MA, and a longtime friend and associate of the director Orson Welles, has made arrangements with Welles’ cinematographer and closest friend, Gary Graver, to present an eye-opening program of Welles rarities and curiosities that are an absolute must for any filmmaker or lover of cinema anywhere. Few in the world have ever had access to some of this material.
The March 11 & 12 event will feature more than films and film excerpts. From the perspective of Welles’ closest collaborator, Graver will also speak about the experience of working with Welles, his vision, his creative process of writing, acting and directing, and the challenges he faced throughout the years.

A very quick summary of the Unseen Orson Welles showing in Northampton this afternoon.
It included 40 minutes of Other Side of the Wind footage.. the three scenes from One Man Band/ Showtime special were included, all in extended form. There were additional scenes from the Hannaford party and the studio lot.
Gary Graver said tomorrow's screening would be the last time he would show the OSOTW footage because those involved in the completition talks have asked him to refrain from public showings.
The afternoon included a showing of a beautiful 35 mm print of Fountain of Youth. It was the highpoint of the afternoon.
The AFI short - Four Men on a Raft was screened, as was trailers for Citizen Kane and the re-edited Touch of Evil. Hearts of Age was shown too.
There were brief excerpts from The Deep, Merchant of Venice, The Dreamers, the Magic Show (all different from those included in One Man Band) and several very funny commercials for Japanese whiskey. Gary Graver and the event's organizer, Larry Jackson (an OSOTW crew member), took questions after the showings in the theater lobby.

There is a ton of little bits I asked Gary Graver about for the newspaper article I wrote. Some things would have not fit in a general interest piece, but I was curious. One of them was about a possible commercial release of Fountain of Youth. He said he had a 35mm print and so did Paramount (which owns Desilu). They do not lease it our for rentals and have no interest in a DVD release. According to Graver, they do not believe the revenue it would generate would cover the legal hassles of making sure all the rights were cleared.
On a similar topic, I asked about a release of the Orson Welles Show pilot. He said that it did not attract network interest in 1979 with a then-dynamite lineup of Burt Reynolds, Angie Dickinson and the Muppets. He thought it would have even less appeal now.
I thought of Kevin Loy's posting about Cassavetes at the close of the afternoon. I was busy talking in the lobby to two friends who showed up. As they were chatting with me, two guys were quizzing Graver about working with Cassavetes and Welles. I heard only bits and pieces about his working relationship with Cassavetes... nothing major. I wish I had walked over then to listen in, but I didn't.
