>Schwartz, who co-wrote an episode of the award-winning PBS series American Experience on The War of the Worlds broadcast, examined audience ratings and thousands of letters written to Welles, the Mercury Theatre and the FCC to determine the extent of the panic, which he concluded has been exaggerated.<
Glad to hear that.
I was underwhelmed by the PBS piece - no new ground broken, and truly dreadful "recreations" - but I am always glad to see that hoary old canard get another stake in its heart!
(I stand with Houseman: the hysteria was much exaggerated by the papers, who saw it as a chance to, "piss on radio.")
