Re: I Loved Movies, But...
The section on Bergman's FACE TO FACE is interesting. The original TV mini-series was never shown in the UK but appeared as a feature film (presumably also in the U.S?) However, SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE did appear on BBC TV in a dubbed version around 1975 with john Carson and Annie Ross, but dissatisfaction led to the BBC screening the original version again, this time with subtitles. It could do this in a better cultural climate when BB2 could show every episode of Louis Malle's INDIA in the pre- STRICLTLY COME DANCING era.
However, back in 1981, Blake Edwards recognized the inferiority of FACE TO FACE in a skit within S.O.B where Julie Andrews wears Liv Ullmann's red flowing costume. So other also noticed it then.
For those unfamiliar with STRICTLY COME DANCING, another example of the BBC's fall from grace (along with the tacky decline of Dr. WHO), see the following - https://www.the-independent.com/life-st ... ref=cupure

Re: I Loved Movies, But...
Although I had a pdf provided to me before interviewing with Joseph McBride, I enjoyed the book so much that I ordered the hardcover.
It's a wonderful book and I would be remiss if I did not publicly thank Joe for mentioning Wellesnet more than once in his memoir.
He has always been a good friend to this website and a true gentleman.
