Woodstock Celebrates Inc. has expanded its planned celebration of the 100th anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth from a two-day to a four-day event in 2015.
The Illinois celebration will now take place a week earlier on May 6-9, 2015, which will coincide with Welles’ actual birthday of May 6. It also avoids a conflict with the Mother’s Day holiday. (Thanks, WCI).
The tentative lineup for the 2015 celebration includes:
• Publication of third and last volume of Simon Callow’s biography
• Publication of Patrick McGilligan’s biography of the younger Welles
• Birthday party
• Lectures and panel – Michael Dawson, Catherine Benamou, and Richard France on Welles’ masterwork, “Chimes at Midnight,” which began at Todd School when he compiled and staged ”Winter of Our Discontent.”
• Screening of Orson Welles films
• Period (1915) cocktails, music, and dances
Details on the 2015 celebration, as well as events planned next year marking the 80th anniversary of the 1934 Todd Theatre Festival, can be found on our Welles in Woodstock Celebrations page. Both events are produced by the non-profit Woodstock Celebrates, Inc.
