Zagreb Film Festival salutes Orson Welles

The 2015 Zagreb Film Festival, which kicked off on November 14, will include a tribute to Orson Welles, who would have turned 100 this year.

On November 16, the film festival will show the restored, previously unseen two hour TV appearance of Welles on the cult Zagreb Tv show 3, 2, 1… kreni! according to tribute organizer Daniel Rafaelic.

The television show was filmed April 30, 1979. and aired as a two-part special the same year. However it was shortened and dubbed four broadcast. Now, thanks to the editing efforts of Leon Rizmaul, who worked with Rafaelic on the 2005 documentary The Other Side of Welles, it has been restored to its original length. Also being shown is the Welles-directed The Trial, which was filmed in Zagreb,The Secret of Nikola Tesla, which was Welles starred in with Petar Bozovic and Oja Kodar. Othello, Filming Othello and The Stranger will also be shown.

Parallel to this, Croatian national TV is showing Mr. Arkadin and The Other Side of Welles.

Rafaelic, along with Fedja Gavrilovic, created the exhibition and book   100 Godina Wellesa/100 years of Welles, that focuses on Welles’ relationship with the city of Zagreb and Croatia itself and includes the works of Croatian contemporary artists inspired by Welles’ legacy. The exhibition is accompanied by the bilingual (English-Croatian) book.. The exhibition is opening is on November 18 ,in Zagreb’s Glyptothek.

The Zagreb Film Festival runs through November 22.
