Welles and "King" roles

Post by Colmena »

Welles notes... somewhere?, that he is particularly suited to play "King" roles.
(Not said boastfully, but just a recognition of his particular constitution and competence.)
Can anyone please re-locate that quote for me?
Thanks!

Colomena:

I think Welles discusses this with Leslie Megahey in the great Arena/BBC interview. It's hard to find on the net now; the Youtube and Vimeo uploads are gone.

Yes, I did watch that interview when it was at You Tube, so (as you suggest) maybe that's where I gleaned that quote.
Thanks, Mido.

What a great loss! Looks like Leslie Megahey’s still “out and about,” though, or at least was a few months ago: http://www.tolkiensociety.org/2015/03/t ... of-honour/. If he’s a Wellesnet member, or one who is, knows him . . .

Found it: This quote turns up in the 1958 interview with Bazin et al, p50f in _Orson Welles Interviews_, published by U. of MS Press.

The Megahey interview is also transcribed in _OW Interviews_ and herein Welles offers another statement of "I'm a king actor," etc. at p194f.
