Jane Eyre - 9/18/38 (missing show)
On 18 September 1938, Orson Welles's production of Charlotte Bronte's novel "Jane Eyre" was broadcast on "Mercury Theatre on the Air," CBS-Radio. This was the first of at least four different Welles radio versions of Jane Eyre, and this is the only one that is now lost. It is difficult to even find out who played Jane in this one. If anyone has any info, let us know.

Bret Wood claims in his generally solid "O.W.- A Bio-Bibliography," that the Welles discs of EYRE exist - but that (as with the AMBERSONS ones) they were much worn by over-use during the making of the EYRE film.

If they exist I'd like to hear them, no matter how bad they sound. They may have been talking about the Campbell version the next year. The sound on that is not bad, but not that good either.

No, Wood's comments are specifically about the first Welles version; of course, he could be mistaken.
