(Re: Today's front-page post.)
Hmmm...
And "Lucius," my friend Arthur Anderson, just passed away, so I can't ask him about this...
I'm away from my files right now, so I can't compare this "new" audio to what I already have. But I do know that the Merc did not over rehearse these shows... This may have been the Dress, earlier on the day of the broadcast?
Also, it is not impossible that it is indeed a record of the broadcast performance, edited for time by a company member who did not care about the non-story material and/or was trying to save expense on the discs. Such recordings have turned up before.
More later,

Re: Rare recording of ‘Caesar’ radio show with Orson Welles
Most people so far seem to think it's another rehearsal. I'm not sure if it is a rehearsal or broadcast, but to me it doesn't really matter since I think it gives a perfectly good idea of what the broadcast must have been like anyway. Of course, if the actual broadcast in it's entirety showed up sometime, that'd be great too, but this seems pretty flawless, whatever it is. Thanks to Terry for alerting us to this.
Speaking of Arthur Anderson, his singing scene is not included in the newly found recording, even though there is a recording of it on Youtube and Vimeo. I wonder what that's from.

Arthur's song is from an (probably, "the") earlier rehearsal.
It was cut for time.
(As was the great rehearsal Outro for TREASURE ISLAND which also exists, where Orson tells the story of Arthur flooding the Mercury Theatre during CAESAR.)
-Craig
P.S. - He played the same lute/mandolin again as he sang the song in our Friends of Old Time Radio 2007 recreation of CAESAR.
