This is depressing.
You may remember me from such sites as imdb, amazon and criterionforum as Ben Cheshire.

Re: Trump's favorite movie
Once again, as he does so often and so well, The Donald TOTALLY misses the truth of something.
(And hey, that sometimes happens in life with some individuals! But when a lot of other folks chose to FOLLOW such a person's lead, then history proves we've got big trouble...)

I envisage Trump University setting up The Charles Higham Chair of Welles Studies.

Donald Trump on Orson Welles' legacy
Donald Trump: ‘I loved Orson Welles. He was totally f―ked up. He was a total mess’
http://www.wellesnet.com/donald-trump-o ... -totally-f
Trump's comments and our take:
"I loved Orson Welles. (flattering)
He was totally f--ked up. (critical)
He was a total mess. (critical)
But think of his wives. (flattering)
Think of his hits. (flattering)
He was like this great genius that after 26, never did it. (critical)
He became totally impossible. (critical)
He thought everybody was a moron, everybody was this, everybody was that; (critical)
if he had a budget he’d exceed it by 20 times and destroy everything. (critical)
He became impossible. (critical)
I loved that.” (flattering)

It's fairly obvious that Trump is a sociopathic narcissist. His comments on Welles is an example of what psychologists call "projection".

IndieWire's take:
http://www.indiewire.com/2016/06/donald ... 201687387/
Donald Trump is a huge Orson Welles fan. Huuuge.
The presumptive Republican Nominee for president recently told Bloomberg that he “loves Orson Welles,” adding, “He was totally fucked up. He was a total mess. But think of his wives. Think of his hits.”
Ah yes, the wives and the hits. Though Trump said his favorite film is Welles’s ‘Citizen Kane,” a movie about an heir to a fortune who becomes power hungry–ahem–his overall view of Welles is decidingly negative. “He thought everybody was a moron,” Trump said. “He was like this great genius that after 26, never did it. He became totally impossible.”
Perhaps ironically, some of Welles’ least admirable qualities are exactly what Trump says attracted him to the director. “If he had a budget he’d exceed it by 20 times and destroy everything,” Trump said. “He became impossible. I loved that.”

"I think it would be fun to run a University!"
"So, I'm losing money every month! Well, with my legal team delaying damages to those losers who enrolled in the first place, I guess I'll be out of business by 2026!"

Beatrice Welles offers her view:
"Never mind the inaccuracies and that what he is saying is so wrong – the rest of it is stupid," she said. "Why mention his wives? He's talking about his films and then he brings up his wives? It's just so stupid."

Well, Beatrice, as we are ALL learning -
That IS the essence of The Donald.

It's going to be one hell of a election coming up and if William Randolph Hearst were alive today he would be foaming at the mouth.

Re: Donald Trump on Orson Welles' legacy
Trump's comments on Welles illustrate how his mouth is like a broken water main, shooting out in all directions chaotically, with no rhyme or reason. He doesn't seem to have a good grasp on most of the things he talks about, but his followers love the rhetoric.
Trump does make one point that Welles would have agreed with, when he says that "Citizen Kane is really about the accumulation, and at the end of the accumulation you see what happens and it's not all positive." That's similar to what Welles said in one of his newspaper columns: "What's wrong with accumulated wealth is not the wealth but the accumulation."
