The Beatles: Get Back (2021) documentary

Post by AngeloColombus »

Was watching the first episode of the Peter Jackson documentary on The Beatles and there are two references to Orson Welles. The first was the group playing a instrumental version of The Third Man theme and then towards the end of the episode you hear the original director of the Let It Be movie Michael Lindsay Hogg talking about meeting Orson in Belfast when he was making Chimes At Midnight and saying that Orson was a very funny man. Great documentary on the Beatles so far.

That would have been the stage production of Chimes at Midnight in 1960 (Lindsay-Hogg appeared as an actor in that production); the film version was shot in Spain starting four years later.

The Get Back documentary is quite amazing for the shear amount of footage Jackson is able to present. The second episode is pretty weak overall with a lot of the running time devoted to the participants literally sitting around mulling over what they want the film to be. However, the third episode was riveting and the minute-by-minute account of the rooftop concert reveals exactly how the event played out (which is somewhat different than the legend would have it).

Thanks for the correction Roger. I agree that episode 2 was not that exciting but will watch episode 3 tonight.

The full audio of Michael speaking (primarily) with Ringo about Orson. Some great anecdotes in there.

Trivia: During the rooftop concert, Orson Welles' wife, Paola Mori, was across the street at a tailor's shop with their daughter, Beatrice, picking up a jacket. The family had enjoyed dinner with Lindsay-Hogg about a month earlier.

Watched the whole series and i did enjoy it. Decided to watch my only bootleg dvd of the original Let It Be movie and i did notice that there were some scenes in the Let It Be film that were not in the documentary. I hope both movie and documentary will come out on disc.
